Only the light bulb sockets have been replaced. Notice in the photos there are four panels decorated with scenes of people each one being different from the other. This is typical of early Satsuma style. I have included a short history of Satsuma below. Lamp has a wooden base and stands 29 tall.
Vase is 15.5 tall. The base is 7" in diameter and the metal top of the lamp is 5.5". Lamp is in working condition but does not include a shade. This item was procured from a very old Philadelphia estate. We have not removed the base to look for any markings.
Please see photos for details. Satsuma is a Japanese pottery with a distinctive creamy beige crackled glaze. Most of the pieces were decorated with blue, red, green, orange, or gold. Women who liked to make hand-painted porcelains at home began to decorate plain Satsuma. Early Satsuma pieces have floral designs asymmetrically space, with much open space, or pictures of people , usually religious figures.
