The mouth of the tsuka is fitted with tightly wrapped paper and what looks like some sort of old fabic tape. The core structure of the tsuka seems unstabil, which could indicate a fracture to the structure. Although this is not visible. When fitted to a blade this instability disappears. I have a large collection of antique Japanese weapons and fittings that I value and treasure.
The way I collect is with the philosophy that I do not want to possess a lot of items, but I want to have had a lot and then pass them on, and in that way learn about antique Japanese weapons.
